Thank you Payless Shoes for the Payless Gives Program!

With the generosity of Payless Gives, the Boys and Girls Club of Fontana was able to give more than sixty of our members new pairs of shoes just in time to start the new year. A large portion of our members are raised in foster homes or single-parent households that struggle daily to provide for the kids. The offer of new shoes relieved at least a little of the burden for our families this holiday season and their appreciation brought tears to more than one eye.

One of our middle school members has been part of the Boys and Girls Club for two years, and for as long as we’ve known him he’s only had one pair of shoes. For two years he’s worn the same shoes every day until they were worn through and the soles split apart. Jake lives with just his mom and his three brothers and sisters, and while his mother works hard to take care of the family, she hasn’t been able to afford to get him a new pair of shoes even though the ones he had were ragged and too small for his growing feet. Thanks to the Payless Gives program, Jake and his siblings were all able to get new shoes this holiday season!

Six Flags Magic Mountain

This weekend we were fortunate to take thirty members and four staff to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Armed with gifts for the Toys for the Holidays Toy Drive, we all boarded the bus for a day of fun and excitement!

For over 25 years, Six Flags Magic Mountain has dedicated the first two weekends of December to their annual Toys for the Holidays Toy Drive. With community support, more than 500,000 toys have been collected for Southern California’s youth, making it one of the single most successful long-running holiday toy drive campaigns in the United States. All toys collected are distributed with the help of UPS to local Boys and Girls Clubs.

With a full day at the park, members were able to go on a variety of different rides, including X2 for the bravest of the bunch!

Others stuck to the tamer rides like Revolution and the Carousel, but everyone gave the wooden coasters a try.

Popular Club tournaments like Ping Pong Ball Bounce helped members win stuffed animals and other prizes from the midway games; and superhero capes were by far the most popular souvenirs for our members!

Toys and gifts donated by Six Flags Magic Mountain will be given out to members at our annual Lunch with Santa on Saturday, December 17th.
